If you have had a massive flood of water run through your house because you had a burst pipe, then you are in for a lot of work. Cleaning up and repairing everything can take a lot of time and can cost you a lot of money. So what can you do to deal with repairing all the water damage?
Turn off the Power
before you do anything, you need to make sure that you have turned off the power to the area. Water and electricity don't mix, and you don't want to get hurt or cause your house to become more damaged than it already is. It may be fine if you just turn off the breaker and isolate that particular room, but if you have widespread flooding, then you will want to go disconnect it outside the house. Then you can start the cleanup process.
Get the Water Out
Once you can safely get into the water, then it's time to start getting rid of it. There are a lot of things you can do, including using mops to soak it up, a large squeegee to push the water around and out the door, or a wet/dry vac. If you are going to use a wet/dry vac to suck up the water, you need to make sure that you are very careful with it. Make sure that the cord doesn't go in the water. If you have turned off the power to your home, you may want to use a generator to power the vac to use it.
Get Everything Else Out
After you have cleaned up the water or cleaned up as much as you can, you will also want to get everything you can out of the house. You may want to have someone taking things like furniture, books, and rugs out while you are cleaning up the water. That will let you get the water up easier as well. Getting everything out of the house will let you evaluate everything. You can see what things can be dried and salvaged, what needs to be repaired, and what you need to trash.
